Breed grooming guide
West Highland Terrier grooming
The Westie's round, chrysanthemum face and bright white coat are classic. Skin can be sensitive in the breed, so gentle products and a careful approach matter.
The coat
Understanding the West Highland Terrier coat
Westies have a harsh outer coat that hand strips beautifully and keeps the coat whiter and more weather-resistant. Many pet Westies are clipped for convenience, which is fine but softens the coat.
- Coat type
- Harsh white outer coat with a soft, dense undercoat
- How often
- Every 6 to 8 weeks
- We recommend
- Full Groom or Hand Stripping
Popular styles
Classic Westie trim
The round head, neat body and tidy skirt.
Hand-stripped finish
The traditional texture and a whiter, harsher coat.
